Q: What are some of Q+A’s favourite naturals?

A:

As you may know, our product range is 98% natural, and if you’ve spent more than two minutes on our website, our blog, or our social media feeds it’s probably very obvious that we like to talk about our ingredients! Today is no different, and I’ll be highlighting three lovely naturals we haven’t yet gushed over.

The first is Ginger Root. You may have been slightly more conscious of this wonderful plant recently for supporting your immune health, or for its antibacterial medicinal properties, but it is also one of those ingredients which has been used for its varying health benefits for hundreds of years and slipped in and out of superfood status since the word first popped up. With benefits ranging from aiding digestion, to treating a flaky scalp, it makes absolute sense. And when it comes to skincare ginger is no less versatile.

It’s primary boast is strong antioxidant power (if you’re not yet up to speed on antioxidants, I break it down on this blog), able to reduce swelling/redness and signs of ageing, enable skin repair, and slow collagen degradation, just by keeping those pesky free radicals firmly at arm's length. Ginger root is also highly praised for it’s blemish-fighting power, as it is anti inflammatory, and helps to increase circulation, which keeps our skin healthy and any long-term skin damage at bay. It is even known to help even your skin tone, whether you have dark spots or light scarring.

You may think such a hard-working active might be too intense for dry and sensitive skin, but that thought would misguided! It soothes as it works, and the natural fragrance it provides is a refreshing and gentle alternative to the synthetic variety.

I’m sure it will come as no surprise that our Ginger Root Daily Moisturiser champions this natural goodie. With added Aloe vera and tocopherol (known for its high vitamin E content), you have a luxurious aromatic cream to suit every skin type. What you may not know is that we’ve also included Ginger Root in our Collagen Face Cream!

Next up is our other naturally scented fave, Peppermint. Whilst most of us probably associate it with toothpaste, or maybe candy canes, peppermint can have some pretty impressive skin benefits when included in a topical product. Firstly, it is antibacterial and antimicrobial, which makes it a great choice for those with oily or blemish-prone skin, cleansing your face and unclogging pores, and generally keeping any nasties away from your skin. This in turn allows for quicker healing and renewal of your skin cells, strengthening your skin’s natural barrier function. And what does that minimise, I hear you say? Signs of ageing.

Peppermint oil is made from several chemical components, the primary (and more well known) being menthol. This is what delivers peppermint’s cooling sensation, helping you feel refreshed or invigorated, and soothing any redness, inflammation, or irritation. Whilst you should never apply peppermint oil directly to your skin, when diluted in a carefully formulated wash-off product, like our Peppermint Daily Cleanser, it’s a great edition to any skincare regime , no matter your skin type.

Due to peppermint’s ability to strengthen and heal, it’s also a great addition to our Liquorice Lip Oil (and another reason it feels so good to apply out of the fridge!).

Our final shout-out is to an ingredient you may be a little less familiar with, and that is Grape Seed Oil. Because grape seeds aren’t used as part of producing wine, this ingredient is another sustainable biproduct (like betaine) that is just as good for your skin as it is for the environment. It is a non-comedogenic oil, meaning it won’t clog your pores, making it an easily absorbed ingredient for all skin types (noticing a theme here..?). The two main factors that favour grape seed oil are its antioxidant and essential fatty acid content. Vitamin E, a great antioxidant, helps repair damage caused by environmental pollutants, like UV exposure or air pollution, improving the condition of your sun spots, fine lines, wrinkles, and even hyperpigmentation. In fact, grape seed oil has a far greater antioxidant power than vitamin E or vitamin C alone, thanks to its molecular structure. With linoleic acid, part of the omega 6 family, the oil also strengthens your skin barrier and reduces inflammation. It’s an all round nutritional boost for your skin!

You’ll find grape seed oil in our Ginger Root Daily Moisturiser, Liquorice Lip Oil, 5-HTP Face and Neck Cream, and Super Food Facial Oil, proving it truly is one of our favourite ingredients!

Because all three of these naturals are skin friendly no matter your skin type, if you’re unsure about a product that will suit you look no further than the ones I’ve mentioned in this blog – you can’t go wrong!
